Ovulation induction (OI) is the procedure in which ovulation-inducing drugs are administered to women to either ensure that there is at least one egg (oocyte) produced for the month or to increase the number number of oocytes in that menstral cycle. Ovulation problems are mostly treated with clomiphene or letrozole tablets, which are taken early in your cycle or Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) injections. Ovulation induction is often used in conjunction with intrauterine insemination (IUI). This treatment is only recommended for a patient who has normal fallopian tubes, and whose partner has a normal semen anaylsis.
The exact date of ovulation can be determined by using an ovulation urine test kit. Another option is to use an injection when the follicle has reached an appropriate size, usually around 20mm in average diameter, to trigger ovulation. To maximize your chance of conception either timed intercourse or IUI will be recommended.
