IVF Sunshine Coast welcomes enquiries from overseas couples. With improvements made in the last year in our clinical and laboratory management, our recent results have been excellent, on a par with the best in the country. This gives us confidence in offering our services to clients from overseas. We are a smaller unit than some of the more famous IVF clinics from the major centres in Australia. Our size gives us the opportunity to make the whole process of assisted reproduction a more personal experience and allows us to tailor the management for each couple to their particular needs. The Sunshine Coast is one of the most beautiful areas of Queensland, with many outstanding recreation and accommodation facilities.

The First Step - Background Information
Before you make any plans to travel to Australia, we require a referral from your local doctor or gynaecologist, indicating the current problem and details of previous investigations. We will send you a registration package, which can be sent by fax, e-mail or post. You will need to let us know the quickest way to send the registration package to you. Once we have received your referral and registration information, we will be in touch to discuss how to proceed further.
Initial testing:
The following tests would be useful to have before you arrive in Australia:
Female partner:
- Rubella status
- Hepatitis C
- Hepatitis B
- HIV
- Syphilis
- Blood group and antibody studies
- Scan of the pelvis (a recent report)
The male partner should also have the following done before arrival:
- Recent semen analysis
- Hepatitis C
- Hepatitis B
- HIV
- Syphilis
Any other information relevant to your problem should be provided by your local referring doctor.
Length of stay in Australia
The length of your stay in Australia depends on how much of your cycle monitoring can be done in your own country before arrival here. For women who require standard IVF, the best time to arrive would be at around mid-cycle (just before or just after the time of ovulation). For women on the pill, aim to arrive on Day 7 to 10 of the cycle. You will need to stay in Australia for 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the type of cycle and treatment that you have.

Who is eligible for treatment?
The following couples are some examples of the cases who are eligible for treatment in our unit.
- Couples with unexplained sub-fertility.
- Men who previously have had a vasectomy.
- Women with previous tubal ligation.
- Recurrent ectopic pregnancies.
- Men with poor quality sperm.
- Older women who wish to use donor eggs. Such couples must be accompanied by a known (usually younger) woman willing to be an egg donor.
How much will it cost?
Because every couple presents with unique requirements, each requires an individual approach for their IVF treatment cycle. Therefore, the costs for each couple can vary considerably. An estimated figure would be provided once we have your registration and referral details. As a rough guide, you will pay between $AUD10,000 and $AUD12,000 excluding accommodation and travel.
These costs include:- all FSH injections and associated drugs required for the ovarian stimulation
- all ovarian ultrasound scanning and pathology required during the monitoring of the ovarian stimulation
- in-hospital costs (for the oocyte collection)
- any associated anaesthetic fees (for the oocyte collection)
- fees for the sub-fertility specialist (for all consultations and procedures, including the oocyte retrieval and embryo transfer)
- all IVF Laboratory costs during the IVF treatment cycle (including the oocyte retrieval, sperm preparation, embryo culture and embryo transfer). A sperm injection procedure (ICSI) will cost an extra $AUD975 if required.
These fees do not include the freezing of embryos or semen, or their subsequent storage. Freezing costs are an additional $AUD550, if extra embryos are available for future use.
